STRONG SEL BELIEFS + HIGH IMPLEMENTATION FIDELITY = POSITIVE SCHOOL CLIMATE
What Does The Research Say?
Urban high-school educators — school counselors, teachers, and administrators — reported very strong belief in SEL (~89% of maximum). Stronger beliefs were tied to more frequent SEL use.
As SEL implementation increased, school climate ratings improved, especially perceptions of safety, respect, and adult support.
SEL commitment was strong across roles and years of experience, but the school sector and leadership tone made a meaningful difference in how climate was perceived.
The patterns support a school-wide W'healthy M.E.S.S. Leadership Framework — shared SEL beliefs and consistent implementation, championed by leaders, produce healthier climates.
